James “Jim” Frazier is a specialty and captive insurance expert with over 25 years’ industry experience. After graduating from the University of North Dakota with a BSBA, he joined his father’s two-person insurance firm based in Chicago. Providing business insurance to a range of industries from manufacturing to banking and real estate, together Jim and his father grew the firm to over 26 employees and revenues at an CAGR >25%, successfully selling the firm in 2007.
During the next several years, Jim developed a deeper expertise in specialty and captive insurances to combat a growing industry trend he observed. Agencies, in their efforts to achieve economies of scale, were making insurance a commodity and lowering customer satisfaction. Too often, customers’ individual needs were not being addressed, and the insurance they were issued didn’t provide full coverage for them and their businesses.
In complement to his skill at running efficient operations embracing the latest technologies, Jim’s business success is founded on his depth of knowledge and commitment to “Giving clients more than they expect.” To show there is another way to achieve economies of scale without loss of service quality for the individual and business owner, in support of NACVA (National Association of Certified Valuators and Analysts), Jim launched Program Insurance to provide E&O, Cyber Protection and General Lability Insurance to financial, analytical and consulting professional services businesses. Today, Program Insurance supports over eight (8) associations, manages over $1B in E&O liability coverage, has a 90% quote to close and maintains a 99.7% retention rate.
During this same period, Jim also had the opportunity to work with Alex Pederson and Day Larsen Pedersen (DLP) Insurance, a leader in providing quality protection for individuals, families, and businesses with an emphasis in customer service. DLP strives to place the needs of their clients above their own because they believe this is the foundation of successful relationships. Having shared values and a commitment to quality service, Jim joined DLP in 2012 as an owner and Principal, launching the Assurance Program Division.
DLP’s Assurance Program Division designs and manages specialty insurance products for specific professions, and provides loss prevention tools. Jim quickly created and launched Movers Assurance, a Moving and Storage insurance product line that rapidly achieved $M in revenues. Started in Colorado, the program quickly grew and Jim expanded service to the western United States. Today Movers Assurance is available in 38 states, and achieves loss ratios at half of industry norms, with client retention that is almost double industry norms.
DLP’s Assurance Program Division’s success is driven by Jim’s operational philosophy to provide individually crafted services and support, built on the foundation of an efficient operation that embraces the latest technologies. He achieves economies of scale without compromising the customer experience. He is committed to creating enduring relationships with policyholders, taking the time to understand the needs of each prospect and policyholder, and ensuring they receive the right services, with the right amount of coverage. Jim is an innovator, a growth driver and an inspiring leader. He leads with vision, embracing the opportunities that technology offers while remaining steadfast in his commitment to value for each and every policyholder. Throughout his career, Jim has served on Agent advisory boards for several insurance companies including Selective and Accident Fund Insurance Company of America. He has also mentored many insurance professionals throughout their careers, as he is committed to unlocking the potential in each team member to give their best, and building high performance teams.
